Getting started with the repair of your iPhone 6 Plus

If you get stuck or have questions, you can post a comment. We’d be happy to help.

46 steps
  1. Turning off your Device

iPhone 6 Plus - Turning off your Device 01
iPhone 6 Plus - Turning off your Device 02
    1. Turn your iPhone off completely to avoid damaging it during the repair. Press the standby button for about three seconds until the slider appears.
    2. Wipe it from left to right. Now your iPhone will shut down completely, which can take about ten seconds.
  2. Removing the enclosure screws

iPhone 6 Plus - Removing the enclosure screws 01
iPhone 6 Plus - Removing the enclosure screws 02
    1. You need a pentalobe screwdriver to open the iPhone 6 Plus.
    2. Remove the two pentalobe screws at the bottom of the enclosure. They are located to the right and left of the Lightning connector. Put the screws in the same container.
      2 x 3.8 mm pentalobe screw
  3. Lifting the display

iPhone 6 Plus - Lifting the display 01
iPhone 6 Plus - Lifting the display 02
iPhone 6 Plus - Lifting the display 03
    1. Put your iPhone 6 Plus on a soft, clean surface to avoid scratching the back.
    2. To lift the front panel, you need a suction cup and a hard plastic pick. If the screen is severely cracked, cover all of it with packing tape before you continue.
    3. Place the suction cup over the Home button (if possible) or next to it (see figure 1). While lifting the screen with the suction cup, insert the hard plastic pick between the aluminum frame and the display frame and press down the aluminum frame. Also use the hard plastic pick to raise the screen (see figure 2). This usually takes several attempts.
    4. As soon as you can lift the screen a few millimeters, you have to carefully work your way around the outside until it’s loosened on both sides (see figure 3).
  4. Disconnecting the cables

iPhone 6 Plus - Disconnecting the cables 01
iPhone 6 Plus - Disconnecting the cables 02
iPhone 6 Plus - Disconnecting the cables 03
iPhone 6 Plus - Disconnecting the cables 04
iPhone 6 Plus - Disconnecting the cables 05
    1. First remove the two Phillips screws (see figure 1) and remove the silver cover (see figure 2).
      1 x 3.2 mm Phillips screw
      1 x 2.3 mm Phillips screw
    2. Using the spudger, carefully disconnect the lower oblong connector for the Lightning connector (see figure 3) and the battery connector above it (see figure 4).
    3. Then disconnect the little antenna connector from the logic board (see figure 5).
  5. Disconnecting the connectors

iPhone 6 Plus - Disconnecting the connectors 01
iPhone 6 Plus - Disconnecting the connectors 02
    1. First remove the five Phillips screws from the silver cover (see figure 1). Put the screws in the same container. Then lift the cover to remove it.
      1 x 1.6 mm Phillips screw
      3 x 1.2 mm Phillips screw
      1 x 2.9 mm Phillips screw
    2. Disconnect the following four overlapping connectors (see figure 2) in the order shown below. Be very careful. Place the pointed tip of the spudger very slightly below the contact and lift it up.
      Front camera/sensor/earpiece/ambient microphone
      Touch ID cable
      LCD
      Touchscreen

    1. First uncover the upper screw in the camera cover. It’s below a piece of black tape. (See figure 1).
    2. Unscrew the two Phillips screws from the camera cover (see figure 2).
      1 x 1.6 mm Phillips screw
      1 x 2.1 mm Phillips screw
    3. Now remove the silver camera cover (see figure 3).
    4. Then disconnect the camera connector by placing the pointed tip of the spudger very slightly below the contact and lifting it up (see figure 4).
    5. The camera is fitted very securely in the enclosure. You may have to use the spudger to remove the camera (see figure 5).
    6. Now lift the camera out of the phone (see figure 6).
  7. Removing the vibration motor

iPhone 6 Plus - Removing the vibration motor 01
iPhone 6 Plus - Removing the vibration motor 02
    1. Remove the two screws that hold the vibration motor in place (see figure 1).
      2 x 2.3 mm Phillips screw
    2. Now carefully remove the vibration motor. Make sure that it’s still connected to the antenna cable and don’t fully disconnect it in this step (see figure 2).
  8. Removing the silver cover

iPhone 6 Plus - Removing the silver cover 01
iPhone 6 Plus - Removing the silver cover 02
    1. First remove the two Phillips screws from the silver cover (see figure 1). Put the screws in the same container.

    1. Disconnect the contact for both the volume control cable and the standby cable (see figures 1 and 2).
    2. Then carefully detach the antenna cable’s connector (see figure 3). The cable runs below the two other connectors with a little bracket holding it in place. Remove the cable from the bracket (see figure 4) and then carefully bend it to the side (see figure 5).
    3. Remove the cable from the bracket (see figure 4) and then carefully bend it to the side (see figure 5). Put the screws in the same container. Then lift the cover to remove it (see figure 7).

      2 x 1.6 mm Phillips screw
      1 x 2.8 mm Phillips screw
  10. Removing the logic board bracket

iPhone 6 Plus - Removing the logic board bracket 01

    1. Now unscrew the three screws that hold the logic board in place (see figure 1).
You’ll need both the Phillips screwdriver and a flathead screwdriver or the laboratory spatula.
      2 x 2.3 mm standoff screw
      1 x 2.0 mm Phillips screw
  13. Removing the logic board/disconnecting the antenna connector

iPhone 6 Plus - Removing the logic board/disconnecting the antenna connector 03
iPhone 6 Plus - Removing the logic board/disconnecting the antenna connector 04

Note that you can’t completely remove the logic board at this point because it’s still attached by the antenna cable on the bottom.

    1. Slightly raise the logic board using the spudger (see figure 1) and carefully fold it up vertically (see figure 2).
Make sure it’s not stuck on the cables/connectors and carefully fold it over to the front so you’re looking at the bottom of it.
    2. On the other side, disconnect the antenna connector by carefully pulling it off the plug head using the spudger (see figures 3 and 4).
    3. Now you can remove the logic board.
  14. Removing the battery

After a repair, complete the following steps:

    1. Synchronize your iPhone with iTunes or connect to a WLAN network and wait until the time is set.
    2. Remove the SIM tray with the SIM card and reinsert it.
    3. Activate airplane mode on the device and then deactivate airplane mode.
