iPhone 6s - Replacing the volume control cable

1. Turn off your iPhone before reparation to prevent it from damage. Therefore, press the standby button for about three seconds until the slider appears on the display.
2. Swipe it from the left to right-hand side. Your iPhone will shut down in approximately 10 seconds.

1. To open the iPhone 6s you need a pentalobe screwdriver.
2. Remove the two pentalobe screws right and left of the lightning connector. We recommend you to arrange the removed screws on a magnetic pad, just like they were located in your phone before .
   2 x 3.8 mm pentalobe screw

1. Put your iPhone 6s on a soft, clean surface to avoid scratching the back.
2. Use a suction cup to lift the front panel, a hard plastic plectrum and a hot-air gun. If the screen is severely damaged, cover it entirely with adhesive tape before you continue.
3. The screen is slightly adhered to the frame. Use the hot-air gun to heat the outer edges of the display to about 60°C (140°F).
4. Place the suction cup over the home button or next to it. While lifting the screen with the suction cup, insert the hard plastic plectrum between the aluminum frame and the display frame. Try to press down the aluminum frame as well as to push up the display with the hard plastic plectrum. Usually this takes several attempts.
5. As soon as you can lift up the screen a few millimeters, slide carefully alongside the outer edges until the display is loosened on both sides.
   If necessary, heat the outer edges of the display several times.
   

To avoid a short circuit, disconnect the battery contact at the beginning of the repair. This will also ensure that you do not accidentally switch on the device during the repair.

1. Remove the Phillips screws and the plug cover that secure the battery plug. Place the loosened parts in a common field on the magnetic pad to make them easier to find later.
   1 x 2.2 mm Phillips screw

2. Now carefully remove the battery plug by carefully driving an ESD spudger under the plug. If you do not have a spudger at hand, you can also try it with your fingernail.

1. First loosen the four Phillips screws of the silver contact cover. Place the loosened screws together with the cover in a field on the magnetic pad to make them easier to find again afterwards.

2. Release the following three overlapping display connectors in the order shown below. To do this, slide the spudger under the respective connector and lift it carefully.
   Front camera/sensor/earpiece/ambient microphone
   Touch ID cable
   Display

1. Unscrew the two Phillips screws fixing the taptic engine.
   2 x 1.5 mm Phillips screw
   
2. Now you can remove the taptic engine.

1. The battery is attached to the enclosure with two adhesive strips. To detach the adhesive strips you can use a tweezers or a spatula.
2. Pull the adhesive strips off very slowly from under the battery. While pulling hold the adhesive strips as flat as possible to prevent them from tearing apart.
3. As soon as the adhesive strips are detached, you can simply remove the battery.

1. To remove the SIM card tray you can use the SIM tool or a paperclip. Press the SIM tool into the small hole in the SIM card tray to remove it.

1. Unscrew the two Phillips screws from the camera cover.
   1 x 2.0 mm Phillips screw
   1 x 1.6 mm Phillips screw
2. Unplug the camera connector by carefully placing the spudger under the connector and slightly lifting it up.
3. You can now take the camera out of your iPhone.
   Caution! The silver cover is lightly glued to the camera!
   

1. First loosen the two Phillips screws that keep the silver connector cover in place.
   2 x 2.3 mm Phillips screw
2. Then lift off the cover and place it together with the screws in a common field on the magnetic pad.
3. Carefully unplug the volume connector from the board with a spudger.

1. First loosen the five Phillips screws from the Wi-Fi cover. Then, drop the screws in the same section on the magnetic pad.
   2 x 2.1 mm Phillips screw
   2 x 1.3 mm Phillips screw
   1 x 2.3 mm Phillips screw
2. Subsequently, lift up the cover to remove it.
   

1. Unscrew all six screws fixing the main board.
   1 x 2.3 mm hex screw
   2 x 1.3 mm Phillips screw
   2 x 1.8 mm Phillips screw
   1 x 2.5 mm Phillips screw
2. Pull out the little antenna cable.
3. With your hand you can now carefully remove the main board.

1. First unscrew the cover by removing the Phillips screw.
   1 x 1.2 mm Phillips screw
2. Then remove the flashlight cover.

1. Unscrew the five screws fixing the standby/volume control cable using a Phillips screwdriver.
   2 x 2.2 mm Phillips screw
   2 x 2.5 mm Phillips screw
   1 x 1.9 mm Phillips screw
2. The cable gets easier to pull off if you previously heat it with hot air.
3. Insert the spatula under the ribbon cable and carefully detach it from the base.
4. Now you can remove the cable.

1. Now place the standby/volume control cable in its original position and screw it tight with the five Phillips screws.
   2 x 2.2 mm Phillips screw
   2 x 2.5 mm Phillips screw
   1 x 1.9 mm Phillips screw
Make sure the cable is lying flat and is not being bent!
2. After tightening the screws, check out the sensitivity of the buttons. Adjust the screws if necessary.

1. Attach the cover and screw it tight again.
   1 x 1.2 mm Phillips screw

1. Put the main board back to its original place.
2. Now plug the contacts for the standby/volume cable set and the antenna cable.
3. Attach the little antenna cable.
4. Fix it with the five Phillips screws.

2 x 1.8 mm Phillips screw
1 x 2.5 mm Phillips screw

1. Now insert the Wi-Fi antenna and screw it tight.
   2 x 2.1 mm Phillips screw
   2 x 1.3 mm Phillips screw
   1 x 2.3 mm Phillips screw

1. Attach the connecter to the board.
2. Now attach the silver cover and screw it in place.
   2 x 2.3 mm Phillips screw
   

1. Put the camera back in its previous position and connect the camera’s connection cable.
2. Now install the camera cover and screw it in place. It may still be on the camera.

1. Reconnect the connectors for the antenna and the lightning connector.

1. Now put back the battery in the iPhone and plug the connector.

1. Put the taptic engine back to its original place.
2. Fix it with screws again.
   2 x 1.5 mm Phillips screw

Now insert the SIM card tray into the appropriate opening.

1. Plug the display connectors. This usually takes several attempts. Be careful not to bend the connectors.

2. Start your iPhone as soon as the connectors are properly attached. Check the function of the LCD, touchscreen, proximity sensor, front camera and earpiece.
   If the display connectors aren’t properly connected, stripes are displayed or parts of the touchscreen won’t work!
   
3. Now put back the connector cover and screw it tight.

1. Connect the battery connector.
2. Put on the silver cover plate and screw it in place.

1. Carefully fold down the display. Make sure that the edge on the upper screen side with the connected cables snaps in properly. Now carefully push down the display towards the home button alongside the display edge until it is properly placed in the frame.

1. Now screw tight the two pentalobe screws at the bottom of the enclosure.
   2 x 3.8 mm pentalobe screw

When the battery is removed from the device, the iPhone loses the time and sets itself to 1:00 a.m. on 1/1/1970. You could have trouble connecting to the cellular network if the time isn’t set.

After a repair, complete the following steps:

1. Synchronize your iPhone with iTunes or connect to a WLAN network and wait until the time is set.
2. Remove the SIM tray with the SIM card and reinsert it.
3. Activate and deactivate flight mode on your device.
