  1. Removing the back cover

    1. Lift the back cover with your finger to detach it from the smartphone. There’s an indentation in the side of the Fairphone for this purpose.
    2. Remove the back cover from the device.
  2. Removing the battery

    1. Remove the battery from your Fairphone by lifting it at the bottom.
  3. Removing the SIM and microSD cards

    1. Remove the SIM cards and the microSD card.
  4. Disconnecting the chassis

    1. Remove the seal so you can access the screw.
    2. Remove the five Phillips screws.

    1. The chassis is hooked onto the display frame. Use a pick to detach the chassis. Insert the pick between the chassis and the display frame. Repeat this process for the entire device.
    2. Remove the chassis.

    1. Remove the standby button and the volume rocker switch from the display frame.
  7. Disconnecting the contacts

    1. Use the flat end of the spudger to detach the antenna cable from the logic board.
    2. Carefully remove the cover from the sensor contact using a pair of tweezers.
    3. Use the spudger to release the flexible flat cable.
    4. Carefully disconnect the flexible flat cable from the logic board.
  8. Removing the logic board

    1. Remove the three Phillips screws.
      3 x 2.2 mm Phillips screws
    2. Lift the logic board, but don’t remove it yet. The logic board is still connected to the bottom of the display.
    3. Tilt the logic board upward by 90° so you can disconnect the display connection under it.
    4. Use the spudger to disconnect the display contact.

  10. Installing the logic board

    1. Put the logic board on the display at a 90° angle to the display.
    2. Connect the display to the logic board.
    3. Put the logic board back in the right position on the display frame.
    4. Then fasten it with the three Phillips screws.

  11. Connecting the contacts

    1. Connect the flexible flat sensor cable to the logic board.
    2. Lock the plug connection in place.
    3. Put the cover back on.
    4. Connect the antenna cable to the logic board.

    1. Install the standby button and the volume rocker switch again. Put them in their original positions in the display frame.
  13. Installing the chassis

    1. Position the chassis on the display again.
    2. The chassis has to be hooked onto the display frame. Press the chassis against the frame until it clicks into place.
  14. Attaching the chassis

    1. Use the five Phillips screws to attach the chassis.
      5 x 3.9 mm Phillips screws
    2. Put the seal back on.
  15. Inserting the SIM and microSD cards

    1. Put the SIM cards and microSD card back in.
  16. Installing the battery

    1. Put the battery back in your device.
    2. Make sure the battery’s three gold contacts are touching the three gold springs in your smartphone.
  17. Attaching the back cover

    1. Put the back cover back on. Make sure the two tabs on the back cover hook into the chassis.
    2. Press the back cover on until you hear it click into place.
