Huawei P10 screen repair guide

Is your display broken? It's really easy to repair your Huawei P10!

Each step has detailed photos to guide you through this screen replacement.

In this repair we replace the entire display unit, not just the broken glass. You may have to reuse some small parts from the old display unit for this screen replacement, depending on how your spare part is equipped.

The Huawei P10 is fairly easy to fix, because the screen isn't glued to the frame and there aren't many different screw types.

Unclipping the display is a little tricky, and you will need a Pentalobe screwdriver to unscrew the rear case.

Run a data backup before the repair, use a clean work surface and take enough time.

Also check your spare part before installation. If you find any visible errors, please contact your vendor before starting!

Getting started with the repair of your P10

Switch off device
Turn off the device first to prevent short circuits.
Press and hold the power button until the power off icon appears.
Tap again to shut off the device.
Remove SIM tray
Remove the SIM holder.
Slide a SIM tool into the small hole and pull out the holder.
Unscrew the case
2 × 3,0mm Pentalob

Now remove the rear case screws to the right and left oft he USB port.
Huawei is using Apple Pentalobe screws. You will need a Pentalobe PL1 screwdriver. You could strip the screw heads if you use another screwdriver.
Remove rear case
Connector

Remove the rear case now.
The display is not glued, but snap fitted on the long edges. It has positioning tabs on the top edge.

Attach a suction cup on the display above the Home button.

Pull on the suction cup and use a pick to pry open a small gap between case and display.

Gently twist the pick to pry off the display.

Once the display is released all around,fold it open.

Attention:The display is still connected with a thin flex cable for the standby and volume buttons.

Disconnect this flex cable from the mainboard with a plastic tool.
Disconnect the battery

Battery Connector

Disconnect the battery to prevent short circuits during repair.
Remove the bracket over the battery connector. The cover has a screw on one side and a tab on the other.
Unplug the connector with a plastic tool.
Disconnect the flex cable

Remove the marked screws
Then carefully lift off the cover. The cover is hooked in at several points.
Remove the mainboard

Display Connector

We now remove the mainboard.

Disconnect the marked connector 1.

One of the screws has a white moisture indicator on top, which you can keep for later.

Now remove the Phillips screws.

Then disconnect the large connector from the mainboard and take out the cable.

Disconnect the upper end of the small antenna cable with a twist of the tweezers.

Be careful not to damage the socket on the mainboard.

Then remove the bracket and separate the underlying connector.

Now you can carefully pry out the mainboard with a flat tool.
Remove the battery
Remove the battery.

The battery is glued to the case with two adhesive strips. One of the adhesive strips can be pulled out. Unstick its pull tab and slowly pull to remove the strip. Pull out the strip very flatly,so it doesn't rip.
Now you can slide in a flat tool like the iPlastix from the released side.

Be careful not to bend the battery or scratch the case.
Gradually slide the tool under the battery; don't pry too hard.
If the glue is too strong,you canuse hot air to release it.
Never heat the battery directly. Turn the device over and heat the display side.
Remove the earpiece
Pry out the lightly glued earpiece.
Remove proximity sensor
Pry out the small chip with the proximity sensor. This sensor switches off your display when you hold the phone to your ear.
On one side there's a small opening where you can insert a thin tool.
Remove audio port
Audio Connector

Unplug the audio jack connector and pry out the audio jack.
Remove speaker
Speaker connector

Disconnect the connector and pry out the speaker.
Remove USB board
Unplug the antenna from the USB board with a slight twist of the tweezers.

The antenna cable is clipped to the board, so release the brackets.
Make sure the screw that holds the USB board in place is removed.
Once the USB board is free, you can take it out carefully.
Remove antenna cable
Pull the antenna cable out of its guide in the edge of the case.
Remove vibration motor
Remove the vibration motor.

Slide a flat tool under its flex cable.
Once the glue is released, you can take out the vibration motor.

Prepare new display
Prepare the new display now.
Compare the old one to the new one and reuse any missing small parts.
Then remove the backing films from all adhesive surfaces.
Insert the vibration motor
Put the vibration motor in its opening and press it in.
Insert antenna cable
Then put the antenna cable back in its guidein the edge of the case.
The bent end of the cable goes towards the USB board.

Put the USB board back in its place.
Position the antenna plug over its socket and gently press it on.
Stick the cable back into the brackets on the USB board.
Insert speaker
Speaker connector

Put the speaker in its place and press it on.
Then plug on the speaker's connector.
Insert audio port
Audio connector

Put the audio jack in its opening and press it in.

Attach the audio jack's connector.
The connector should engage with a slight click.
Insert proximity sensor
Place the proximity sensor in its opening and press it in.
The golden contacts have to be facing up.
Insert the earpiece
Then put the earpiece in its opening and press it in.
The small tab on the edge must point upwards.
Insert the battey
Put the battery in the device and press it in.

Leave enough space on all sides and make sure the connector doesn't get squeezed in.
Insert the mainboard

Display Connector

Put the mainboard back in the device and press it in. Be careful not to get any cables stuck underneath.
Check if the cameras are sitting properly.
Then attach the large connector to the mainboard.
Put on the bracket and make sure the tab engages.
Position the antenna connector over its socket and press it in.
Place the flex cable with the arrow over the battery. The arrow has to point upwards.
Now fasten the mainboard with the Phillips screws.
If possible, put the moisture indicator back on the bracket screw.

4 × 2,5 mm Phillips

Now attach the connector of the wide flex cable to the USB board.
Place the connector cover on the USB board and screw it on. Make sure that the metal tabs engage correctly at the top and bottom.
Don't forget the screw for the USB board.
Connect the battery
Battery Connector

1 × 2,5 mm Phillips

Connect the battery to the mainboard.
Attach the bracket, engage the tab and screw in the other side.
Attach the rear case
Fingerprint connector

Put the rear case next to the display and connect the flex cable to the mainboard.
Then fold the display into the rear case andslide in the tabs on the top edge.
Now snap-fit the display into the case.

2 × 3,0 mm Pentalob

Fasten the two Pentalobe screws next to the USB port.
Always use a Pentalobe PL1 screwdriver, because other profiles will strip the screw heads.
Insert the SIM tray
Put your SIM or SD cards back in and insert the SIM tray.
Test the display
Turn on your device and test the display brightness by sliding the brightness slider to minimum and maximum.
Then rag any app across the screento test the touch function. Pull the app around the entire edge and then zigzag it across the screen. The app should always follow your finger.
