Getting started with the repair of your Fairphone 2

  1. Removing the back cover

    1. Pull on the back cover’s rubber rim on one of the short sides of your Fairphone, and pull the cover off one corner of the device. It’s easy to get your fingernails under the rubber rim.
    2. Pull the back cover off the next corner of your device.
    3. Remove your Fairphone from the enclosure.

  2. Removing the battery

    1. Lift the battery out of the chassis.

  3. Unlocking the display module

    1. There are two locks at the bottom of the Fairphone 2 to attach the display module to the chassis. You release the lock by pushing the sliders toward the Micro-USB port.
    2. Release the locks one after the other.

  4. Removing the display module

    1. Once you’ve unlocked the display module, you can push it off of the chassis.
    2. Push the display module toward the Micro-USB port. Hold the chassis at the USB port to provide resistance.
    3. Remove the module from the chassis.

  5. Removing the microphone/USB module

    1. Remove the four Phillips screws that hold the module in place.
      4 x 5.5 mm Phillips screws
    2. Remove the microphone/USB module and put it with the screws.

  6. Removing the camera module

    1. Remove the three Phillips screws that hold the camera module in place.
      3 x 5.5 mm Phillips screws
    2. Detach the module by using the flat end of the spudger to pry it out.
    3. Remove the camera module and put it with the screws.

  7. Removing the audio module

    1. Remove the two Phillips screws that hold the module in place.
      2 x 5.5 mm Phillips screws
    2. Push the module out of the chassis from the back. First press the surface next to the rear camera.
    3. Then press the surface with the headphone jack.
    4. Remove the audio module and put it with the screws.

  8. Removing the cover plate

    1. Remove the two Torx screws that hold the cover plate in place.
      2 x 3.3 mm T5 Torx screws
    2. Use the steel laboratory spatula to detach the cover plate’s retaining clip.
    3. Remove the cover plate. Note that two of the plate’s tabs are positioned below the connector for the audio module.

  9. Disconnecting the logic board

    1. Disconnect the main antenna from the logic board using the pointed tip of the spudger.
    2. Remove the five Torx screws that hold the logic board in place.
      4 x 3.3 mm T5 Torx screws
      1 x 4.5 mm T5 Torx screw (black)

  10. Removing the seal

    1. Use the steel spatula to detach the seal from the display connector. Insert the tip of the spatula between the connector and the seal.
    2. Pry the seal out from the other side and remove it.
    3. Remove the two Torx screws that hold the logic board in place.

    1. Disconnect the logic board from the chassis by using the flat end of the spudger to pry it out of the logic board.
    2. Lift the logic board with your fingers and move it so the battery connector slides out of the chassis.
    3. Lift the logic board out of the chassis.

    1. Position the logic board in the chassis.
    2. At the same time, guide the battery connector into the appropriate opening in the chassis.

  13. Installing the seal

    1. Fasten the logic board with the two Torx screws.
      2 x 3.3 mm T5 Torx screws
    2. Position the seal on the connector again.

  14. Attaching the logic board

    1. Fasten the logic board with the five Torx screws.
      4 x 3.3 mm T5 Torx screws
      1 x 4.5 mm T5 Torx screw (black)
    2. Attach the main antenna to the logic board using the pointed tip of the spudger.

  15. Installing the cover plate

    1. Position the cover plate on the logic board again. Guide the plate’s two tabs back under the connector for the audio module.
    2. Make sure the plate’s retaining clip clicks into place.
    3. Fasten the cover with the two Torx screws.
      2 x 3.3 mm T5 Torx screws

  16. Installing the audio module

    1. Position the audio module in the chassis. Make sure that it clicks into place under the two tabs on the chassis.
    2. Fasten the module with the two Phillips screws.
      2 x 5.5 mm Phillips screws

  17. Installing the camera module

    1. Position the camera module in the chassis.
    2. Fasten the module with the three Phillips screws.
      3 x 5.5 mm Phillips screws

    1. Position the microphone/USB module in the chassis.
    2. Fasten the module with the four Phillips screws.

    1. Put the display on the chassis.
    2. You can push on the display to connect it to the chassis.
    3. Push the display module toward the front camera.

  21. Installing the battery

    1. Put the battery in the chassis.
    2. Make sure the battery goes all the way into the chassis and isn’t tilted.

    1. Put the Fairphone in the back cover lengthwise. The device can click into place in two corners of the back cover.
    2. Pull the back cover’s rubber rim over one corner.
    3. Pull the rubber rim over the last corner. Check whether the rubber rim is on evenly all around the display.
