Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro - Replacing the battery

Before you start the repair, we recommend that you use our checklist to test the basic functions of your phone. This will enable you to check after the repair whether you did everything right. Switch off your Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro after testing to avoid a potential short circuit during the repair.

1. To do this, first press and hold the power button for a few seconds.
2. Tap "Power Off" in the menu that appears.
3. Your smartphone will now shut down completely within a few seconds.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro is opened via the heavily bonded glass back cover. In order to remove it, you have to heat the glue with hot air first. Use a hot air device such as a heat gun or an ordinary hair dryer.

1. Place your phone face down on a soft, clean surface.
2. Move the hot air tool evenly over the edge of the back cover.

As a rule of thumb, heat the edge of the back cover just enough, so that you can still touch it without burning your fingers.At the upper edge as well as around the camera lenses the back cover is especially strongly glued.

Once the glue of the back cover is sufficiently heated, you can start to carefully remove it from the display unit.

Opening the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro will void the manufacturer's warrant

1. To begin, place a suction cup at the lower part of the back cover and pull it slowly upwards to create a narrow gap between back cover and display frame.
2. Increase the gap by inserting a flat, stable tool into the gap. We recommend the iFlex and iPlastix for this purpose.

The iFlex is made of particularly thin, stable metal and has sharp edges. The iPlastix on the other hand is made of flexible plastic with rounded edges. To avoid scratching the frame of your device, we recommend that you start with the iFlex at this stage and continue with the iPlastix as early as possible

The easiest way to insert the tool is to place it in one of the two corners of the lower frame.

Once a gap is created, you can detach the backcover from the display unit piece by piece.

Be especially careful when loosening the back cover, as it is made of glass and can therefore break easily.

1. Move the tool along the edge of the back cover.
2. Press the back cover upwards at the same time to separate it from the display.

Plug flat plastic picks at regular intervals into the loosened areas between the display and the back cover to prevent the adhesive from reconnecting. Insert the picks with the broad side facing inwards.

To make it easier to loosen, you can reheat the glue with hot air at regular intervals.

1. Put the back cover aside as soon as it is completely detached.

The connector of the fingerprint sensor is secured under a plastic cap on the Redmi Note 8 Pro. To be able to loosen the connector, the cap must be removed first.

Don't apply too much force when loosening the plastic cap, otherwise small pieces might break off.

1. Use a sturdy, pointed plastic tool to drive into the opening on the edge of the plastic cap. We use an ESD spudger for this purpose.
2. Push the cover upwards to release it from its lead and take it out of your device.

• Connector

After loosening the plastic cap, the connector of the fingerprint sensor is exposed and can be disconnected. The sensor itself is integrated in the cover of the camera lenses, which must also be removed.

1. First disconnect the connector of the fingerprint sensor by carefully levering it off with a sturdy, flat plastic tool. We recommend a handy plastic spudger for this purpose.

When levering off the lens cover, take care not to damage the connector or the connector flex cable.

1. Then loosen the slightly stuck lens cover together with the fingerprint sensor by driving a spudger under its edge and carefully lifting it off.

To make it easier to remove the slightly stuck lens cover, you can heat it with hot air beforehand.

1. Use tweezers to remove the detached unit consisting of sensor and cover.

There is a plastic cover between the backcover and the display. This is screwed and fixed with an adhesive strip on the battery.

1. First loosen all ten Phillips screws that secure the plastic cover.

It is advisable to use a screw storage to store screws and components. We recommend our magnetic mat for this purpose, as all removed parts can be arranged on it in the same way as they were installed in the phone

1. Then remove the adhesive strip from the battery.
2. Use a spudger to carefully lever the cover out of your device and put it to the side.

• Connector

To prevent a short circuit during repair, you must disconnect the battery from the mainboard as soon as possible.

When detaching connectors always lever from the side where there are no small components on the board. This way you avoid potential damage.

1. Move the spudger under the battery connector and carefully lever it off the mainboard.
2. Detach the connector from the display and flex cable in the same way.

The USB board of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro is located under a plastic cover.

1. Loosen the plastic cover over the board by unscrewing the Phillips screws.
2. Then use tweezers to remove it from its lead at the bottom edge of the display and put it aside.

The speaker module is located next to the USB board. It is attached to the battery with an adhesive strip.

1. Pull the adhesive strip off the battery.
2. Then you can easily remove the module from your device with tweezers or your fingers.

The USB board is attached to the display unit with a screw.

When detaching connectors, always start from the side where there are no small components on the board. This way you avoid potential damage.

1. First disconnect the connector of the flex cable by carefully levering it off with a spudger.

When detaching the antenna connector, lever it at the bottom end of the golden plug in order to avoid damaging it.

1. Also detach the antenna connector from the USB board by gently pushing it upwards with tweezers.
2. Then unscrew the Phillips screw from the board.
3. Finally, carefully lever the released board out of its lead in the display unit with a spudger.

• Connector

After loosening the USB board, the vibration motor of the Xiaomi can be removed. It is slightly stuck in its lead in the lower display area.

1. First, separate the slightly glued connector of the vibration motor by carefully lifting it off the bottom of the display unit with tweezers.

The easiest way to detach the connector is to start from the side of the display edge.To make it easier to loosen the connector, you can briefly warm it up with hot air.

1. Then lever the vibration motor itself out of the unit and put it aside.

The battery is glued to the display unit with two adhesive strips. These can be pulled out by their tabs, which are attached to the top of the battery.

1. Start by using tweezers to remove the black tabs from the top of the battery.
2. Then slowly pull the adhesive strips out from under the battery one after the other. Pull out the adhesive strips as flat as possible, so that they do not tear.

Hold your phone and the battery firmly while pulling out the last adhesive strip in order to prevent the battery from falling out of the device.

If one of the adhesive strips tears, you need to gently lever out the battery with a battery spudger. Doing so, try to bend the battery as little as possible.

1. With both adhesive strips are released, you can remove the battery from its lead in the display unit.

After the defective battery is removed, the replacement battery can be inserted. There are no adhesive strips included in the scope of delivery of the replacement battery. Therefore, new dhesive strips must be attached to fix the battery firmly in the display unit.

1. First apply the adhesive strips within the marks on the back of the battery. We use our universal battery tapes for this purpose, but you can also use thin, double-sided adhesive tape.
2. Then place the new battery in its lead and press it tight, so that the adhesive can bond well with the display unit.

• Connector

Before the USB board can be installed, the vibration motor must be put back into the device.

1. Put the vibration motor back into its lead in the lower part of the display unit.
2. Press the motor connector and the vibration motor itself tight, so that the adhesive can bond with the display unit again.

At this point the USB board can be put back into the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro.

1. Put the board back to its original position in the display unit.

Make sure that the charger as well as the headphone jack are correctly positioned in their leads on the edge of the display.

1. Then connect both the connector of the antenna cable and the connector of the flex cable to the USB board. Both have to click into place audibly and noticeably.
2. Finally attach the board with the Phillips screw.

Before attaching the plastic cover, the speaker module must be reinstalled.

1. Place the speaker module in its original place in the display unit.
2. Press the adhesive tape of the module back onto the battery.

• 2 × 4.0 mm Phillips

Secure USB board and speaker module by attaching the plastic cover.

1. Align the plastic cover over the board and module.
2. Then screw it tight.

• Connector

Now attach the remaining connectors of the mainboard.

1. First attach the connector of the flex cable that connects the mainboard to the USB board.
2. Then also attach the display and battery connectors.

The battery connector should always be the last to be connected in order to prevent a potential short circuit.

Put back the plastic cover over the mainboard at this point.

1. Put the cover on and press it firmly so that it clicks into place.

To ensure that all three lugs on the edge of the plastic cover snap into the display frame correctly, it is recommended that you first press the cover on the left edge of the display, then on the top and then on the bottom.

1. Screw the cover back into place using the Phillips screws.

• Connector

Before the connector of the fingerprint sensor can be attached, the lens cover must be put back on the plastic cover first.

1. Position the lens cover and press it firmly, so that the remaining adhesive can bond to the plastic cover.
2. Then reattach the connector by using a spudger or simply your finger.

Secure the connector of the fingerprint sensor by replacing the plastic cap.

1. Align the plastic cap on the shape of the opening in the plastic cover.

The small arrow on the cap will help you align it. It must point upwards and towards the fingerprint sensor.

1. Now press the plastic cap firmly so that it clicks into place. Start with the narrow, rear end of the cap.

At the end of the repair, your Xiaomi must be closed again with the back cover. Normally, the adhesive residues on the edge of the back cover and the display unit will be sufficient to seal your device firmly again, otherwise you will have to remove the old adhesive frame and attach a new one.

1. Align the back cover over the display unit and press it tight.
2. Heat the adhesive by running hot air over the edge of the back cover.

To allow the glue to rebond, you should also weigh down your Xiaomi for half an hour with something heavy, such as books.
